Description

Very rare locality specimen of aggregated lustrous polycrystalline galena with cavities partially filled by white euhedral crystals of cerussite with very good lustre.

Collected by Roger Gnat in 1984 in the old Órgiva mines. Ex Roger Gnat collection.

These mines of the Sierra de Lújar were exploited during 1970’s and 1980’s by Sociedad Minero Metalúrgica de Peñarroya for the production of galena, and lately fluorite until the closed 1989. A new operation is active for fluorite since 2010, operated by Minera de Órgiva S.L., but no modern material is accessible for collectors.
