Description

Radial aggregate of stibnite in precious opal. The surface of the stibnite has rainbow color. Very rare specimen, unique in the world

This Slovakian locality is one of the largest and oldest precious opal occurence in Europe.
Major mining ceased at the beginning of the previous century. Since then, collectors have visited only. It was an underground mine. The parts of the mine can be visited today.
The opal is hosted in Tertiary volcanic rocks and associatiated with stibnite and others.

The world's largest precious opal comes from here and is preserved in the Vienna Museum. (13cm and about 600g)
The opals from here are famous for their perfect color.
One of the famous opal of the French crown jewel comes from here.
