Kamotoite-(Y)

Rare Mineral
Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Kamoto East Open Cut, Kamoto, Kolwezi, Lualaba, DR Congo
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5 × 3 × 1 cm
Description

An exceptional specimen of this rare yttrium-uranyl carbonate, the largest and best for richness I have ever had. The matrix of black uraninite highlights the crystalline groups, typically fan-shaped, of an intense yellow color scattered on the upper surface. In a small area there are small azure crystalline patches of asrtocyanite-(Ce) but certainly are not those that bring out the exceptional characteristics of this specimen. A wonderful miniature, the "definitive" sample to be included in own collection, for this rare mineral species.
The bottom is sawn.
