Type locality-Rare Mineral-Classic locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Cap Garonne Mine, Le Pradet, Var, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
2 × 1.5 × 1 cm
Description

Black crystals of capgaronnite associated to orange acicular perroudite crystals and maybe an orange-red aggregate of iltisite (sixth photo). However, this last mineral has not been confirmed by analysis.

Capgaronnite is one of the very few minerals with Bromine (Br) and Iodine (I) in its composition. In fact, of almost 5000 known minerals, only 17 have Bromine, only 26 have Iodine and only 6 have Bromine and Iodine at the same time in its composition (from MINDAT database), so this is a real rarity!
