Description

Suevite specimen from the Nördlinger Ries - one of the world's biggest and best preserved impact craters (ater US geologists E. Shoemaker and E. C. T. Chao 1960). The impact breccia contains stishovite and coesite - high pressure modifications of quartz.

The meteorite that created the Ries had a diameter of about 1.5 km and hit with the energy of several 100,000 Hiroshima bombs.
