Pyromorphite & Vauquelinite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Kipushi Mine, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.6 × 3.2 × 1.6 cm
Description

Not many pyromorphite and vauquelinite specimens from Kipushi have survived the mining activity. This one is relatively big and very rich in apple-green prismatic crystals of pyromorphite that are dark green at the base due to the association to globular pseudomalachite. Some areas are rich in canary yellow vauquelinite accompanying black botryoidal heterogenite on matrix.

This has been analysed by RAMAN and the analyses will be provided with the specimen.

Ex. Achiel Moors specimen, a Belgian colonist in the D.R.Congo from 1957 to 1972. Ex Iván Blanco collection.
