Ferberite Psm Scheelite

Pseudomorph

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Gifurwe Mines, Cyeru Commune, Northern Province, Rwanda
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
11.3 × 6.8 × 2.9 cm
Description

A classic “reinite” pseudomorph from the remote pegmatites of Gifurwe, far less common that those from Bugarama, located also in Rwanda. This is a big specimen formed by interpenetrated scheelite crystals completely replaced by polycrystalline lustrous black microcrystalline ferberite. The aggregate is porous, which is typical for the locality, cause the scheelite crystals were replaced by black ferberite and white-powdery anthoinite, previously located in the porosity of this specimen that is now gone. Some crystal faces of the scheelite are still recognizable, with some quartz matrix.

Ex. William De Keersmaecker specimen, who bought it on November 16th/1972.
