Description

This is another historical specimen from the collection of Dr. Henri-Léon Ungemach*. Is features lustrous deep red crystals of lorandite on parallel growths of realgar, lining completely a cavity of 10x9 mm. Allchar is the type locality of lorandite.

It comes with the original label, handwritten by Ungemach (specimen #1610), one from the University of Liege (specimen #4578, number handwritten (in blue) by Professor Dr. Joseph Mélon (Mélonjosephite), and one label from the Jozef Cosemans collection (#A208).

*Henri-Léon Ungemach (1879-1936) was a chemical engineer, PhD in mineralogy from Strasbourg. Ungemachite was named after him. His collection was acquired by the University of Liege (Belgium) in the '30s. Jozef Cosemans (1934-2012) was Chief Metalurgist at the Zinc smelter of Vieille-Montagne in Balen (Belgium).
