Description

The rare specimen of a fossil marine driftwood covered and overlain by marine deposits of a shallow water sediment near the shore about 84 million years ago. Over time, the biomass was displaced by silica-rich solutions in an oxygen-poor environment.
The special feature of this magnificent specimen are the very well formed, and partly beautifully chalcedony filled teredo wormholes.

The exact location of the find is the sand pit Bingeberg-Flög, Hauset, Belgium, which is very close to the border with Germany

Geology: Aachen strata, Upper Santon, Upper Cretaceous.

Finding possibilities exist today only very limited, because the two sand pits were closed down some time ago.

The backside is not polished.
