Description

"Gitterquarz" - from the german "Gitter" = lattice is known for some time from the Erongo and Spitzkoppe in Namibia. This specimen is as far as i know from a find around 2007. An aggregate of intergrown quartz crystals, some of them double terminated with a very interesting habit: they look like multiple japanese law twins arranged resembling a garden lattice fence - since the name. They not common twins but an epitaxial growth of the quartzes adjusted to the feldspar crystal lattice they initially grew on. A very interesting specimen also with some schorl, chlorite and relics of feldspar present, not very much are offered. The exact locality is not known, but the occurrence is said to be at the border between the Erongorus 166 farm and the Bergsig 167 farm.
