Description
Locality:
Bülten-Adenstedt Mine, Ilsede, Peine District, Lower Saxony, Germany
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.2 × 2 × 0.8 cm
Description

The Buelten-Adenstedt mine yielded the best european (or may be even worldwide) kutnohorite, groutite and ramsdellite specimens during the mining period which ended in 1976 (Emilie shaft). This sample is a real german classic with black lustrous groutite crystal aggregates - at least the specimen was labeled as such by the collector who had collected a small lot of these specimens in a box. I did some XRD analyses of very similar material out of this small lot before and except one specimen (which turned out to be pyrolusite) was confirmed to be groutite. I can´t rule out pyrolusite or ramsdellite though. Very rare stuff nowadays. This specimen was found prior to 1962 at the Kaiser Wilhelm shaft by the late german collector Paul Hanses.
