Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Clifton, Bristol, Avon, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
9.2 × 5.8 × 2.5 cm
Description

A very interesting 19th century specimen with attached label of Groom-Napier: The label states "Hematite mixed with quartz on a basis of clay under the Cliffs banks of the Avon. Clifton." One should take localities labeled by Groom-Napier always with a grain of salt, the specimen could also be from the West Cumbrian iron ore field or Lancashire as well but the description on this specimen is quite detailed. The specimen itself is a haematite var kidney ore with tiny quartzes on it. In any case a historic specimen of interesting provenance.
