Description

I always rank localities and history high - so this one was really a surprise for me. It is from Mack Mine in San Diego County - this was the first Beryl deposit in the county; discovered in 1903! The finder was John Mack - the mine got his name. Beryl crystals in pale yellow, light green and intense blue color were found. Like the famous Tourmaline localities in San Diego County also Mack Mine is a pegmatite locality. Unfortunately there was never a good documentation about the quantity which was found - the largest clefts were discovered in 1905 and in the early 50ties the mine was closed. So you can imagine, that there is NO material on the common market. The crystal is lustrous all around and shows very attractive modified end-points.
