Quartz & Chlorite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Ritterkopf, Ritterkopf Massif, Zell am See District, Salzburg, Austria
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8.8 × 5.5 × 4.1 cm
Description

The specimen is from Ritterkopf mountain in the heart of the national park "Hohe Tauern". In or days it is not allowed to dig there, only a few local collectors can work there with only hammers and chisels. The locality never produced much quantity and even a local strahler with lot of experience has to dig for an entire season to find only one good cleft. This crystal is waterclear - the dark area is chlorite on the backside of the crystal. The matrix of this very aesthetic specimen is covered by very dark, nearly black chlorite and some brownish calcite crystals are scattered on matrix. The rock crystal is sharp terminated, well developed also at the reverse. Some faces are very glossy, others are on satiny luster - which helps to give a great tridimensional visual impact to the piece. No significant damages to report.
