Fluorite & Smoky Quartz

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Leschaux Glacier, Mont Blanc, Chamonix, Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.3 × 4.5 × 3.3 cm
Description

I got this specimen directly from the discoverer, who mined it last season on Leschaux glacier. It is really unique material, the cleft produced only 3 samples of relevance. The smoky quartz show intense warm-brown color and very fine lustre. The front side is covered with razor-sharp terminated pink octahedral fluorite-crystals. They are up to 4m across. The tips of the smoky quartz crystals are not covered with fluorite, they show one amazing detail: some fluorites were removed during genesis and left sharp negative imprints, these imprints are also very sharp and also highly lustrous. I tried to show this on a close-up, but it looks better in person. The backside is not covered with fluorite, contacts of intergrown smoky crystals are present, but no damages. Bottom was extracted from the rock. A very asethetic specimen, also the combination of pink fluorite and smoky quartz represents a great and very appreciated rarity from Alps.
