Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Hilltop Mine, Organ Mountains, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, United States of America
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.3 × 0.9 × 1 cm
Description

This sample hosts two minerals which are new for the Hilltop mine. The first one forms yellow to colourless spheres/crystals and is zincospiroffite. This mineral is present as flat spheres. It is the second locality worldwide. The second phase is zemannite which forms beautiful yellow to green hexagonal crystals. The hosting rock is calcite with strong impregnation of altaite and as can be seen on a backscattered electron image another phase at its boundaries, which turned out to be (Ag,Te), most probably hessite.

This is the only sample that I have, the rest was given away for further research on the zincospiroffite phase on synchrotron.
