Hisingerite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.7 × 4.6 × 2.5 cm
Description

OK its black and not really eye catching, but this is an unusually large and thick specimen for hisingerite, known locally as 'sturtite'. This mineral normally forms thin coatings on other minerals, notably calcite. Here it forms on its own as a resinous coal like lump and associated with some brown earthy limonite? and white calcite? .

Pieces like this are seen only occasionally for sale and would prove a great species addition to any collection.
