Atacamite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Mount Gunson Copper Mines, Pernatty Lagoon, Stuart Shelf, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5 × 3.7 × 1.8 cm
Description

These unique atacamite nodules or geodes are just simply stunning and you can't help but love them. They have formed in clays in this remote outback locality. The mine has been acid leaching dumps and residual sulphide ore from the open cut, so it's doubtful we will see any more of these for a long time.

This piece has crystallised differently on one side than the other making it quite interesting. Bladed crystals form delicate rounded balls which often have a hollow centre as can be seen in the photos. No damage, this is a choice piece.
