Description

This nice sized display specimen was obtained from Mr. John Toma, an Adelaide collector who brought the first pieces to South Australian Museum staff for analysis. Incredibly, this material from the mine was already in the museum's collection labeled azurite.

Decrespignyite-Y - Cu(Y,REE)4(CO3)4(OH)5Cl•2(H2O) forms films and botryoids along joint planes in the host siltstone rock. It is the type and only locality for the species.

Named after Mr. Robert de Crespigny, former Chairman of the South Australian Museum, for his contributions to Australian education.
