Description

Superbly formed, this is a particularly fine example of the reniform or mammillary hematite (variety kidney ore), for which these mines are so famous.

It has a very fine luster and a deep red-brown color. Once plentiful on the market, specimens of this quality from the Cumbrian iron mines are now very rarely available. Mined in the 1970's.
