Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Aggeneys, Namakwa District, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.2 × 6 × 3.6 cm
Description

Two epimorphs of a siderite-sphalerite mix (very rare and unique at this locality) after calcite crystals. The calcite crystals were completely dissolved, leaving just the hollow 'shell' of the minerals as a cast. The specimen is in very good condition. There is a 'window' in one of the epimorphs/casts.

From a small find, brought to the Munich show in 2006. This mix of siderite and sphalerite was then analyzed by Dr. Bruce Cairncross. The material is long gone – only remnants from collections appear on the market.
