Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Rotgülden, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 4.7 × 3.7 cm
Description

This dolomite specimen comes from the old historic Rotgülden Mining. The mining history goes back about 2,000 years. Today it is prohibited to dig there; the area is a national park. The dolomite blades are hedgehog-shaped grown on a matrix. The crystals show an excellent gloss. The orange color comes from the weathering of pyrite. The specimen stands without additional support and is a piece from my own collection.
