Description
Locality:
Dotternhausen, Zollernalbkreis, Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 6 × 5.5 cm
Description

Spherical pyrite from a find in Dotternhausen. The locality is generally known for its fossils and small pyrite suns. However, spherical pyrite have seldom been found at this site and therefore they should be classified as very special and rare. This piece comes from a discovery, which was made in April 2010. At that time two types of spherical pyrite were found: Simply shaped ones with a fine structure and more intense crystallized pyrite. Just like this beautiful piece, they are showing partial crystal faces in cubic form. They are very reminiscent of the famous Boji stones from the USA. This specimen has an amazing diameter of 6.5 cm and weighs 519 grams. It is perfectly crystallized on all sides; also the backside offers a very nice view too!
