Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Monte Cervandone Area, Devero Alp, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont, Italy
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
1.8 × 5 × 2.6 cm
Description

The specimen hosts some nice, fresh, black aggregates of cervandonite up to 1.5 mm. On some of these appears deveroite as small white needles, sometimes aggregated in sprays (images 1, 3, 4).

Deveroite, Ce2(C2O4)3 . 10 H2O, was accepted by the IMA recently (Nr. 2013-003, Guastoni et al. 2013). The mineral is extremely rare. It has been found only in a very small area on the Italian side of Mount Cervandone and seems to have formed only on/near cervandonite.
