Description

Fossilized shell from the old Roman Quarry in St. Magarethen, Burgenland.
This specimen is on a very hard matrix and looks "rougher" than comparable pieces, but is well separated from the ground.

An old find, since the entire site is under protection and is world-famous today for theater productions and its open-air museum.

The quarry was already used by the romans 2000 years ago. Later, from the 16th century, the limestone was used for famous buildings in central europe.
During all the time, fossils have kept turning up that are highly sought after by collectors.
