Here is an old book, with a wonderful fantasy cover.
It would be hard not to pick up this combination of graphics and illustrations and look inside.
Schubert's Natural History of the mineral kingdom for school and home dates to the late 1880s and was printed in Germany, although long out of print copies are still possible to find.
Inside the book has sections on geology, rocks, minerals and palaentology, I think orignally 2 volumes rolled into 1, with wonderful illustrations in plates facing the text.
Definitely representative of that era of great learning, exploration and discovery in the C19th.
