Sulphur

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Cozzo Disi Mine, Casteltermini, Agrigento Province, Sicily, Italy
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.5 × 4.8 × 4 cm
Description

It is difficult to find Sulphur specimens today with discrete crystals like this. Several, well formed, translucent, sulfur crystals are emplaced on very minor matrix. While the crystals all exhibit the classic, rich, yellow colour, all have minor bituminous inclusions (important proof they are real, and not man-made!). The largest crystal measures 4,5 cm in diameter. Considering the softness of Sulphur, there are few small imperfections on the crystals. This is an incredibly complex specimen with both visual and crystallographic appeal, of Sulphur of a relatively rare habit. A super specimen.
