Description

Otavite, a cadmium carbonate, is one of the rarest species that the great Tsumeb Mine is famous for, and it is also the Type Locality. They came out of the first oxidation zone circa 1900, and real ones have not been seen since many years,- most of the analyzed specimens turned out as Dolomite or whatever.  This is a very subtle, important, and rare combination miniature specimen. The Otavite is in bright white  crusts and white microcrystals, richly visible around the specimen and especially in the main vug. In combination, there are contrastful amounts of deep green Rosasite what is one of the basic indicator of Otavite. A fine, choice rarity with a good provenance. It comes from the collection of Robert Jakob, a well known Munich mineral dealer and collector. This is an outstanding specimen and it is a large piece for the species,- not a crumb as usual. Super-Super
