Description

A worldwide exceptional find and local specialty in the Sundwig area in Sauerland, Germany: Lustrous, sparkling and waterclear quartz crystals with spectacular inclusions of fossil fungi mycel and strands of bacteria covered by yellowtan iron oxides in iron stromatolites. The mineralization occured in Karst cavities in Devonian Massenkalk (formations with large masses of limestone, mostly reef limestone). See also: Erdmannsdörfer, O.H. Ex collection Loorz.

Loorz was a district steiger of Bockswiese, Harz Mts. The labels of his collection range from 1880 to 1960.
