An old-time specimen of typical banded sulphide schalenblende from Belgium.
The specimen has one face cut and polished to reveal bands of sphalerite, marcasite, and galena deposited in concentric layers.
The sphalerite areas are interesting in that the colour of the sphalerite varies between a light honey gold to a dark brown, with very fine detailed layering visible.
The uncut faces of the specimen show typical slightly oxidised masses of the same botroidal formation with quite a rough exterior surface.
A good old-time specimen, there is a little cracking evident, but the specimen is perfectly stable.
