Description

This specimen consists of 1.2 x 0.8 x 0.7 crystal of fluorite on dolostone matrix. On the top of the crystal are the remnants of fossilized coral. Within the voids of the coral you will find clear dolomite crystals.

The fluorite changes colour depending on the light source. In incandescent light, it is a very, very light lilac, but under LED or fluorescent light, the colour darkens to a pale blue.

During the digging of hydro canals in Niagara Falls, the excavated rock was transported to spoils piles on Montrose Road. Over the years, most of the rock has been either removed or covered over with clay. Today a big box hardware store sits on the site.
