Description

Peculiar complex assemblage of vesuvianite and calcite from this classic locality. These specimens typically are embedded in the typical spatic blue calcite, which requires some etching to reveal brown vesuvianite. In this case, two partial interpenetrating vesuvianite crystals are showing a good habitus and lustre, although the back termination is missing. There are several other crystals throughout the matrix, even larger than the main group, although not in good quality.
A classic vesuvianite from the Italian Alps, quite different from the known rodingite. Collected over 15 years ago by an Italian collector, I did expose the main vesuvianite group with careful etching (HCl). It could be trimmed into a very elegant specimen.
