Description

This is the largest matrix specimen of benitoite we have ever had for sale!

Over a dozen benitoite crystals with typical triangle shaped habitus proudly crop out of a massive natrolite-crossite filled vein, on top of massive blue ophiolite. Benitoite features a good blue color overall, with most times a white core, quite evident in a couple broken crystals throughout the matrix. Most crystals are in good conditions, with medium lustre, although a few broken crystals appear here and there. A great addition to the specimen is a well formed, mm sized, orange joaquinite-(Ce), indicated with a red sticker to spot it easier.
A peculiarity of this specimen is the presence of green spots on some of the broken benitoite crystals. I believe that these are altered djurleite crystals, although I have no analytical confirmation.

A significant specimen from this classic, now defunct locality. Three saw cuts on the solid matrix for better display. My take is that, with minimal preparation, the etching can be advanced further and more benitoite can be exposed.
Dated back to the 90s, it comes from a Swiss collection we have recently acquired.
