Description

Lustrous hessonite crystals on a rodingite matrix.

Garnets, red-brownish in colour, show the rare elongated shape, and are sitting in a garden of clinochlore rosettes. The peculiar tower-like shape of the crystals is due to an overlapping growth of not proportioned dodecahedra truncated by icositetrahedra. This kind of crystallization is referred as "idrogrossularia" by Italian collectors.

An excellent small cabinet from a Piedmontese classic locality.
