Description

Excellent specimen from a very small new find of the extremely rare mineral Tatarinovite as huge (for the species!) crystals to nearly 1 cm. on a matrix of bulfonteinite and tobormorite on hedenbergite skarn from the Shijiangshan mine, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China. This specimen features a sharp pale yellow ~7 mm. tatarinovite crystal on calcite and andradite crystals (better in person!!)

The Shijiangshan mine has become an important locality for extremely rare borate minerals, and is the type locality for both these species (Shijiangshanite and Shinichengite), with 36 minerals known from the deposit to date. This is a world-class specimen for the mineral tatarinovite, and less than 20 specimens of this quality were found. The crystals (MUCH better in person!) are up to nearly 1 cm. and sharp, lustrous and pale yellow... very attractive. This find was one SMALL pocket, which I obtained most of. Very rare material!!
