Nordstarndite is a very rare mineral at MSH. It is a polymorph of doyleite and gibbsite, both of which are also found at MSH, and both of which are even rarer here. (MSH is the TL for doyleite.) According to the 1990 Min Rec special issue on MSH (p. 312), gibbsite is visually indistinguishable from nordstarndite. However, this sample, small as it is, appears to be from a “biotite xenolith”, which makes nordstrandite more likely. According to the most recent label on the specimen, this is nordstrandite with gibbsite+beyerite. (Beyerite is another polymorph, not reported from MSH.) The older label seems to say only that this is nordstrandite and that it is a polymorph of gibbsite and byerite, but the key word is essentially illegible. (See the “Labels” tab.)

FOV in the first pair of photos is 1.1 x 1.4 mm. The individual crystals are ca 0.6 mm. You will need at least 30X to view these crystals.

The second pair of photos (FOV 1.1 x 1.15 mm) is a clearer view of the crystals in the foreground of the first pair of photos. The little “triangle face” is about 0.1 mm on edge.

The specimen comes glued to a styrofoam insert in a "mini-TN" box.
