Description

Ferroceladonite is an uncommon mineral, having been reported only from MSH and eight other localities (per Mindat). At MSH, when found, it covers everything and can be locally abundant. But it is not found very often. In this case, it is mostly just a coating but in places it clumps up substantially. The first close-up photo shows a thin coating on an albite xl 4.7 mm long. The second close-up photo shows a clumpy area 6.0 x 4.1 mm. The third close-up (FOV 6.5 x 3.6 mm) shows some brighter green and “fuzzier” ferroceladonite with the tip of a quartz xls at the bottom and an uncoated albite xls at top right. The quartz xl at top center in the first macro photo is ~ 1 cm long. This same xl is also shown in the next to last photo. The last photo is just another view of the entire specimen. The (broken) chunky xls are miocrocline.

The specimen is from a find visually confirmed by Dr. A. Lalonde – but not analyzed.

Weight 2.9 oz. Single item shipping weight 4.9 oz. Up to a total weight < 8 oz, this can be combined with other items for the same postage.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
