Beryllonite Rémondite-(Ce) & Neighborite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Poudrette Quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
2.5 × 3 × 3 cm
Description

This is a micro. The white beryllonite plates are <= 0.4 mm in diameter. You will need 30-60X to view them. Obviously, this will not win any beryllonite contests. But beryllonite is rare at MSH - the size of these xls is not atypical, and the specimen is actually fairly rich for the locality. Top to bottom in the second photo, the plates span about 3¼ mm. Also, this is from an EDS analyzed find (last "photo). EDS can't see Be, but P and Na are as expected and the habit and environment indicate beryllonite. (Hence the starting bid.) The berrylonite is associated with smoky quartz (on the left), tiny, orange neighborite (upper right and third photo) and very small tufts of rémondite-(Ce) (first photo). The last two minerals are rather small for MSH. The “significant” mineral here is the beryllonite – small as it may be. In the macro photo, the beryllonite is concentrated “south” of the dark smoky quartz xl in the center. This material is from a “tributary vein” in hornfels from the Poudrette pegmatite complex. In addition to the rare minerals mentioned, there are lustrous dolomite/siderite rhombs and a feldspar. Note: Because of the small size, it is difficult to see REE absorption lines in the rémondite. But it fizzes with HCl, which eliminates elpidite – the next most likely possibility in this environment. Weight 1.2 oz. Single item (small box) shipping weight 3.2 oz. One or two other small items (total weight < 4 oz), could be combined for the same postage.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
