Description

As Franklin fluorescents go, this is a small specimen. And the margarosanite (blue) is sparse. But margarosanite is rare – even at Franklin – and Franklin and Långban are the only known localities. Small as it is, this an interesting “three color” fluorescent.

Note: The UV photo is a time exposure. Naked eye perception of the margarosanite will depend on the intensity of the UV source. My source is weak, so the named eye response that I see is not nearly as strong as suggested by the photo. But with a good source, it does look like that. (I’m not sure why some of the blue in the photo looks darker than the “typical” lighter blue of margarosanite. It is not because there is hardystonite – wrong association/environment.) Because of my weak source, I not only had to use a long exposure (~ 25 sec), but also ISO 400 and f2.8. And I did not use stacking. Hence much of the UV photo is out of focus. But hopefully you get the idea.

The band of margarosanite/willemite/andradite is visible on all sides of the specimen.

Weight 1.6 oz.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
