Description

'Huntilite' is a mixture of nickeline and silver - an impure silver arsenide originally described from the Silver islet Mine in Ontario, Canada in 1879 by Henry Wurtz. Although huntilite is now discredited, in 1879 it was thought to be a new mineral species and was named after Prof. T. Sterry Hunt. For a detailed, historic description see Engineering and Mining Journal, Volume 34 - Page 322, December 1882.

Here is a very typical specimen from this type locality featuring dendritic 'huntilite' frozen in cream-colored dolomite. One side is sawn (pic 6).

Comes with Alex Franz label and on-glued corresponding number sticker, and a second, older antique label of an unkonwn collection, likely from 19th century.
