Description

A crystal fragment of euxenite, deep black with glassy luster inside and a lighter crust due to surface alteration. A classic from Landsverk, Evje og Hornnes, Aust-Agder, Norway.

Originally from Ennio Contarini (1890-1975), an italian collector, probably after his death gone to the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano, one of Italy's most important museums of natural history. Some parts of the museum's depot were sold to a well-known english mineral dealer recently.

Slightly radioactive due to content of U, Th and rare earth elements (appr. 5.8 micro Sv/h within spitting distance).
