Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Wood's Chrome Mine, Texas, Little Britain Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States of America
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
2.5 × 3.5 × 1 cm
Description

A layer of a bright green mineral on dark chromite matrix. A 19th century specimen with label of notorious Charles Ottley Groom-Napier (1839-1894) alias "Prince of Mantua and Montferrat" ("Mus. M&M"). Although the script on the Groom-Napier labels is usually easy to read, I was not able to identify the mineral name, it looks like 'Serasite' or similar but this name does not exists as a valid mineral name. It's possibly zaratite, antigorite or another Cr/Ni mineral. The locality seems to be correct. So this specimen is something for being analyzed. Weigth:14 grams

***Updated: Label has been deciphered as reading "texasite" -texasite (of Kenngott, published 1853) is a synonym for zaratite.- thanks to the e-Rocks visitor who solved the mystery.***
