Description

Very inpressive, botryoidal wad (an usually black-colored mixture of manganese oxydes/hydroxydes and other oxydes) in a cellular matrix. Comes with beautiful hand-written label dated 19th century. German 'Erz' means ore in general. A relict of the 19th century gold rush: The locality was named after the country Ophir, mentioned in the Bible, famous for its wealth. A fine US classic!
