Description

This is a rare german locality specimen: An area of tiny gold sheets, which can be clearly seen with a magnifying glass, is scattered on ferruginous quartz.

From the 'Schöne Aussicht Mine, Dernbach, Wirges, Westerwald District, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany'. The mine is listed as a "Brauneisensteingrube" (brown iron stone mine --> goethite, limonite) and was operating on a Fe-, Pb-, Ag- and Cu-holding veins, being the most northern part of the "Emser Gangzug". The most active period of the grube was between 1850 and 1900. The mine is abandoned since about 1900. Today, the only remains of the mine are wooded dumps and a fenced-in machine shaft.
