Description

This striking smithsonite - azurite combination came in the Berg Aukas collection that we acquired in Munich, it was stated to have come from Tschudi mine and I have done my best to find something similar without success so I can not confirm nor deny it.

The azurite exhibits high luster and some matte textured surfaces, the shiney crystals reveal gemmy character in natural light already and come alive when adequately illuminated displaying marked gemmyness.

All the azurite exhibit the same form with sharp terminations no matter their size. The specimen consists solely of azurite caked over by a tough brown soil, no matrix is present to the underside. The same coating is present on the upper surface in small dosage and evidently mineralized prior to the smithsonite due to its position captured in between the azurite and water clear smithsonite crystals, furthermore making them seem included by magnify the color dramatically.

I have not seen such gemmy colorless smithsonite from Namibia before. Some green minerals are present for good measure. The condition is not ideal however acceptable when considering its rarity and the fact that there are countless undamaged crystals.
