Description

This is a very rare locality specimen from the late Harry J. Foy Collection showing a partial, metasomatised flint nodule displaying alteration zones with elongated colourless gehlenite crystals in green ferrohastingite around a larnite core. Carneal Plug is one of just 2 County Antrim localities (Scawt Hill is the other) which display this very usual suite of silicate minerals. This specimen was collected by the late Harry J, Foy who contributed hugely to the knowledge of Irish minerals. He collected from the mid 1960's until ill health forced him to stop in the late 1990's.
