Donald Stockton was born in the UK in 1929 but spent a large portion of his life in Christchurch, New Zealand where he was a well known mineral collector and in the early days had a fondness for Broken Hill and other Australian specimens, as well as many other worldwide localities. He later returned to UK and continued his hobby, until he passed away in 2016. His main classic collection of miniature, small cabinet and cabinet sized specimens are all written into his catalog (a diary from 1968) and all include his own labels, numbered from 1 to 422, and many include previous labels too. This part of his collection includes many classic worldwide localities such as Broken Hill, Tsumeb, Minas Gerais, Illinois, Cornwall etc. In addition there are around 200 thumbnails, with some excellent gem quality specimens, classic examples and rarities from around the world. There are also around another 300 specimens obtained during the later years of his life, predominantly from well-known and respected mineral dealers Rob Lavinsky and Dan Weinrich. The total collection contains approximately 1,000 individual specimens. The collection, in its entirety, is being handled and re-dispersed by Darren at Birkhill Minerals in Scotland, UK.
