Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Bigrigg, Egremont, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.8 × 6.5 × 5.2 cm
Description

Very old, historic specimen from the middle of the nineteenth century with original label.
While hausmannite is reasonable (the lustrous black crystals), it is unclear to me, what the matrix is. There are two labels by the Bergakademie and Gunnar Färber, claiming manganite (see the original) and haematite (Gunnar). However nobody seemed to care about the brown, soft botryoidal masses - of course a manganese oxide like todorokite or a mix (generalized by me as 'wad').
