Description

Orange crystals of the rare mineral tripuhyite (labeled as squawcreekite in the plastic box) from New Mexico.

Squawcreekite was named after its discovery locality, the Squaw Creek Mine, Taylor Creek Tin District (Black Range Tin District), Sierra Co., New Mexico, USA.
Originally approved as a new mineral by IMA in 1991. Discredited in 2003 by the IMA as a tin-rich tripuhyite (Berlepsch et al., 2003).
