Description

An important historic specimen: Altered, brown cordierite is embedded in talc schist host rock.

Comes with very rare and beautiful antique hand-written Isaac Walker label, dated 1832! The label means: 'Triklasite in talc - scarce - Fahlun, Sweden'.
The letters like H, R, T, S, etc. are the auction names; the 'H' letter stands for the origin John Henry Heuland collection. The central number is the lot number, and the date of the auction on the right.
The symbols bottom-left are a price code.
o stands for a guinea (a gold coin worth 1 pound 1 shilling)
1 stands for a pound
- stands for a shilling
. stands for a penny

Many of the specimens can be matched up with the auction catalogues (most of which are in the British Museum of Natural History). The Walker code is in the BMNH amongst the manuscript notes of Sir Arthur Russell who deciphered it about 1920! He bought most of the good Walker specimens (which are now in the BMNH); a lot of the remainder went (indirectly) to the company of F. Krantz, Bonn, Germany.

Triklasit = weathered cordierite, Hintze II, 935 (1892).
